Take 1.5 hour boat trip from Maida Logde to Suoi Lon Boat Station, over the Hoa Binh Lake. Then take a transfer to Pa Co (please make the visit fall into Sunday)
Mai Chau is one of the most beautiful valleys in the mountainous province of Hoa Binh, located about 150 km (about 93.21 mi) west of Hanoi. A short 30km (about 18.64 mi) ride from the center of Mai Chau district nestled away from the mountains main road is the tiny village of Pa Co. This commune is situated in high hills at an altitude of 1500 m above sea level and deep valleys often blanked by dense fog. Entering Pa Co village occupied primarily by the Blue Hmong. In the family of 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam, the Blue Hmong are renowned for the mesmerizing indigo batik harmoniously mixed with patchwork and cross-stitching. Throughout their history the hemp plant and hemp weaving has been an indispensable part of Hmong culture “Only wearing hemp cloth that avoid losing ancestors".
The workshop is organizing fullday by working closely with the Blue Hmong women artisan to learn batik painting with beeswax on hemp fabrics, indigo dyeing and understand hemp making process and meaning of batik pattern. You can keep your batik drawing and indigo dyeing hemp fabrics. You can also visit Sunday local market of Pa Co where the local people sell their food, handmade paper and textiles.
The whole day is dedicated to workshop activities, where the guest can experience the batik technique and hemp waving of Mong people. The most importance is they could see the differences between Dzao people and Mong People do their textile. Back to Mai Chau for overnight
