After breakfast, we will proceed on a guided tour of one of India’s largest cities. Madras is the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The Tamillians are the proud inheritors of a rich cultural heritage, which is one of the main reasons for their beliefs of superiority over the hybridized culture of North India. Fort St. George (1653), built by the British, presently houses the State secretariat and the legislative assembly. The Fort has an interesting museum with fascinating collections of memorabilia from the early days of the British Raj. St. Mary’s Church (1678-80), was the first English church and the oldest surviving in India. The High court building, built of red sandstone has an interesting archaeological section and a bronze gallery. The former has an interesting collection of all major and ancient south Indian dynasties. The bronze section has interesting collections of Chola (9th century) bronze art. The High Court, built in Indo-Sracenic style is supposed to be the largest judicial building in the world after the Court Of England. Near the temple, the San Thome Cathedral (originally built in 1504), is a Roman Catholic Church believed to have the remains of St. Thomas the Apostle.
This evening, we experience and witness a typical marketplace in the heart of Georgetown for an everlasting feel of South Indian culture, and a true glimpse of the real India. Besides, this is the market for all seasons and reasons – for products of daily use like dusters, buckets, and screwdrivers to exotic stuff like assorted nuts, peacock feathers, as well as aromatic spices; everything is sold here in Georgetown. You will be stunned by how one market caters all? But, we assume in a country as diverse as India, it is not a big deal. Also, the best part of shopping in the streets lies in the opportunity to explore the various mouthwatering delights of the region - like freshly- fried Kachoris, hot jalebis, and Burmese noodles to just name a few. While you are here, also take a moment to admire the gorgeous view of the High Court. Built in Indo-Sarsenic style, it is the second largest court in the world, next only to the Courts of London.

Upon arrival, we will proceed on the tour of Mahabalipuram. The sculpture here is particularly interesting because, instead of Gods & Goddesses, the sculpture shows scenes from contemporary day to day life - women milking cows, pompous dignitaries, young girls priming and posing in street corners or swinging their hips in artful come-ons. Mahabalipuram is an easy going village of essentially two streets and positioned at the foot of low lying boulder strewn hill where most of the fascinating temples and the rock cut carvings are to be found. It affords a wonderful combination of an excellent beach, good seafood and the fascinating remains of an ancient Indian Kingdom.

After breakfast, we will drive to Pondicherry, en route visiting Kanchipuram.
These is a Hindu Holy City and capital of the Pallava dynasty from the 7th to 9th centuries AD, is renowned for temples and silk, and you will see plenty of both. The temples range in date from the 8th to the 17th century. The latest building was impressive in its size, the height of its Gopuram, the intricacy of its carvings and wealth of color, but, the earliest temples, of golden sandstone, are more aesthetically pleasing, the only color provided is by a flock of ring-necked parakeets.
Across the road is a workshop where men sit at a loom, weaving fabrics that you will recognise immediately as "Madras cotton". However, Silk-weaving takes place on a grander scale than the cotton- weaving in this town dotted with cottage workshops. You could visit a factory where all the processes of spinning, dyeing and weaving take place. Of special note would be exquisite wedding saris made to order- the silk is heavily interwoven with gold thread. The sari and blouse are woven together so as to ensure a perfect match.
Following the tour, we will continue driving to Pondicherry.

Morning, we will proceed for sightseeing tour of Pondicherry.
The Church of Our Lady of the Angels (Notre Dame des Anges). Built in 1855, this is the Greek Roman architectural style. Its façade, flanked by two unadorned square towers faces east towards the ocean. The interior is roofed by a barrel vault, with a great dome rising over the crossing. This church is also famous for its rare oil painting of Our Lady of the Assumption, which was a gift from the French emperor, Napoleon III. The church has old pews (seating) made of cane, Indian stained glass filters sunlit patterns of color into the interior.
Aurobindo Ashram - It is located on rue de la Marine, one of the most well known in India, with devotees both from India and all over the world flocking to it for spiritual salvation. Its spiritual tenets represent a synthesis of yoga and modern science. It is open to the public daily between 08-1200 hrs and 1400-1800 hrs.The Ashram was set up in 1926 by Sri AurobindoGhose, one of India’s greatest philosopher-poets.
This evening enjoy a Creole cooking class and dinner. Creole cooking is very much part of Pondicherry heritage as it is a proof of its cultural diversity and rich history. Our Creole cooking class takes you through this journey of amalgamated Pondicherry cuisine as you learn to create Pondicherry creole dishes and witness the union of cultures and flavours!

After breakfast we will drive to Thanjavur, en route visiting Kumbakonam and Darasuram.
Kumbakonam is flooded with temples of large size. There are as many as sixty temples, in and around Kumbakonam within 40-km of radius. Of the many temples in Kumbakonam, the oldest Shaiva fane is the Adikumbeshwara and the oldest Vaishnava fane, the Sri Sarangapani.
Darasuram is a small town near Kumbakonam. It is known for the Airavateshwar Temple built by a Chola king in the 12th Century CE. This temple is a storehouse of art and architecture. The vimana is 85 feet high. The front mandapam itself is in the form of a huge chariot drawn by horses. The temple has someexquisite stone carvings. The main deity's consort PeriyaNayaki Amman temple is situated adjacent to Airavateshwarar temple. From here we will continue our drive to Thanjavur,
Later, we continue driving to Thajavur.

Morning, we will proceed on a tour of Thanjavur Palace. It has huge halls, spacious corridors, observation & arsenal towers and a shady courtyard. Though many sections of the palace are in ruins restoration work has been taken up. The palace houses a library, a museum and an art gallery. The Royal museum displays many items from the kings who ruled the place in past. The eclectic collection of royal memorabilia can fascinate any visitor. The Royal cloths, hunting weapons, the head gears and many more such items are enough to catch the attention of any one. There are two Durbar halls where the rulers held public meetings. Though they have not been renovated, they are in good shape.
The Nayak hall of the palace is occupied by the Art Gallery. This gallery has an excellent collection of artifacts from the Chola dynasty during the 8th and 9th century. The bronze and granite statues reflect the height of craftsmanship obtained during those days. The bell tower which was put under restoration work, has emerged very different from the rest of the structure after renovation. But it is worth going up the tower to have a good view of the surrounding area. Next to the art gallery is the SaraswathiMahal Library with an amazing collection of manuscripts on palm leaves and paper. The library is not open for the public. But one can always go in the museum to have a look at the full Ramayana written on Palm leaf or a set of explicit prints of prisoners
We will also do sightseeing of Tanjore. See the beautiful Chola temple of Brihadeeshwara. The temple is capped by a monolithic cupola made of a single granite block weighing 80 tons which was taken to the top with the help of a 6 km long ramp- an old technique used by the Egyptians for building pyramids. You will also visit the Palace and its Art Gallery, which contains several granite and bronze statues of the Chola period.
Following the tour, we will drive to Cardamom House.
It is situated in stunningly beautiful surroundings on a hillside of the Western Ghats over-looking a monsoon dependent 400-acre lake. Cardamom House is owned and managed by Dr. Chris Lucas, a retired English physician, ably assisted by 6 Indian staff. All rooms have either twin or separate double-bedded accommodation, face south, and have modern western style bathroom facilities en-suite with solar heated hot water. Afternoon, we will proceed to the sightseeing of Madurai one of the oldest cities of southern India. It has been a center of pilgrimage, for centuries. The Meenakshi temple, the main architectural attraction here, is an excellent example of Dravidian architecture, with gopurams or multi pillared halls, covered from top to bottom, in a profusion of multicolored images of gods, goddesses, animals and mythical figures.
However, besides the temple, our tour includes a walk along the main street leading to the temple. The well-organized confusion caused by pilgrims in traditional clothes, pavement shops of all shades, holy men in robes of different colors etc add an unmistakable color and atmosphere to this fascinating Temple City.
Later, we will visit the TirumalaNayak Palace - A gracious building in the Indo saracenic style, famous for the Stucco work on its domes & arches. Also visit the Alagar Hills and TiruparaKundan Rock temple.

Morning, we will drive to Periyar.
Upon arrival in Periyar, we will check in to hotel, Poetree Sarovar Portico.
Afternoon, we will enjoy a boat ride along the lake into the more inner areas of the reserve. There is probably no sanctuary in the world where elephant behavior can be watched in such absolute comfort and safety. The total population is about 800. From the lake we can get as close as 20 meters to watch placid groups feeding, bathing and mudslinging. We end this adventurous day at our hotel, turning in for the night matching the tranquil pace of the forest around us.

Later, we will visit the remnants of the stone age, just to the right of the Resort. These Dolmens are believed to be the dwelling places of the inhabitants of this area during the stone-age. These now stand as monumental witness of a pre- historic era. Little is known about them through written history; but they were apparently the rulers of this beautiful land. Ideal for photography, one can experience some great views of the mountains covered in lush green vegetation from here.

Besides this Museum is a tribute to the efforts of all the unsung heroes who were determined to make Munnar a major tea plantation center in Kerala, India.
3. Top Station - If you have a long persistent desire to feel the clouds and fly all along with them, make sure you don’t miss on this amazing destination. Top Station is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road. It also offers a panoramic view of the majestic Western Ghats and the valley of Theni district.

Your host would make your visit a special event, occasion that would get to your heart through your stomach.
Overnight at Tea Bungalow, Cochin (Heritage Premium Room - Upgraded) (B)
After breakfast, we proceed on a guided tour of the City. The true character of the city is to be found in the older parts of the Fort Cochin area. It more or less exists as it used to be a 1000 years back, when it was first built. The roads have not been widened because the old haggard buildings, through patchwork repairs over the centuries, still stand on the edges. This part of the city reflects an unusual blend of medieval Portugal, Dutch and English country life grafted on to the tropical Malabar Coast. The fishing community of Cochin is also very interesting. They ancient cantilevered fishing nets called Chinese Fishing Nets. The net is fixed to a pole on the shore. While fishing, the entire net is lowered by a primitive fulcrum mechanism using long bamboo poles. By the same mechanism the pole is lifted along with the catch. We will explore the sights of Photographic as well as cultural interest. We would also visit the 16th century Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace since the Dutch substantially renovated the palace in the 17th century. The double storied quadrangular building surrounds a courtyard containing a Hindu temple. The Central Hall on the first floor was the coronation hall of the Rajas of Cochin; on display are their dresses, turbans and palanquins. The most important feature of this palace, however, is the astonishing murals in the bedchambers and other rooms, which depict scenes from the Ramayana and other religious legends. These murals are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful and extensive anywhere to be seen in India. The unique feature here is the unexpected and isolated Jewish community, whose origins date back to AD 52. They are self-contained and have their own Synagogue.
The area around the Synagogue, known, as ‘Jew Town’ is one of the main centres of spice trade. Scores of small firms huddle together in old dilapidated buildings and the air is filled with the aroma of ginger, cardamom, cumin, turmeric and cloves. The area is very busy. The potters are loading gunny bags of spices on to carts, which keep running up and down the narrow lanes. We would visit Jew Town, in the Mattancherry section and a short walk from the ferry, is one street long. Jews used to occupy virtually all the houses on Jew Town Road, where they sold fruits, vegetables and spices or worked as oil pressers or carpenters. The spice markets are still located on the narrow street.
A special treat awaits us this evening as we proceed to witness the strength and vigor of Kathakali dance drama, as it enacts episodes from great Indian epics. The extremely stylized gestures, the elaborate make- up, the masks and the splendid costumes of these all-male dancers, recreates an incomparable sense of pageantry.

After breakfast, we will drive to Pollachi.
Upon arrival check into Coco Lagoon - a beautiful resort aiming to take your comfort a notch higher. It is not that often, you get to meet someone who has not only believed in a noble cause for a good part of their life but has lived it successfully, against all odds. It has been fifteen years, since Mr. Madhu Ram Krishnan, from Kottur – Malayandipattinam started campaigning to his fellow farmers / agriculturists, the concept of Nature farming, but in vain. To Mr. Madhu, Nature farming was not just a concept but a mindset. A mindset that understands, man is not above Nature, even with his advanced technologies.
Walk and interact with the man himself to understand the nuances of Natural farming. Also visit his small soap manufacturing unit where he uses all the natural colours and flavours that you find around you in the farm.

This morning, go for an exciting trek towards the magnificent Thoovnam waterfalls where the River Pambar flows in a breathtaking silvery cascade”. Your trek starts at the Alampatty forest check post and it takes about an hour to reach our venue (the maverick waterfalls). The walk through these revered forests along Chinnar trees and Pambar River, is a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse (if you are lucky) of endangered animals that include - the Grizzled Giant Squirrel, the threatened mugger crocodiles, the rare yellow throated Bulbuls, and the famous albino bison, or 'the white bison of Manjampatti'. Moreover, you will be trekking amidst a wildlife Sanctuary that provides livelihood to the tribes such Hill Pulayas and Muthuvans, and helps maintains their cultural heritage. From here, your trek descends down to the falls. This maybe be a little taxing, but with the stunning views of the falls make the hard work worthwhile. Upon reaching, the majestic waterfall, that spreads over 100 meters in width, you can dive into the pristine, energetic waters for a refreshing swim. You can also spend some time there, soaking in the divine bliss of the splendid falls before proceeding back to the vehicles for a drive back to the resort.

The other main reminders of the British period are the stone Churches and the huge boy's school with its landscaped gardens at the bottom of Ooty's famous lake There is also the terraced and very English Botanical Gardens, in which the Government House stands on the lower slopes of Doddabetta (2623m), the highest peak in Tamil Nadu. From the top of Doddabeta you can see Connor, Wellington, Coimbatore, Mettupalayam and, on a clear day, as far as Mysore.

The sprawling meadows, the tea plantations, the surplus of greenery, the abundance of the vibrant sunflowers, the gorgeous marigold, the fiery rhododendron render Coonoor a heavenly touch. After breakfast, we will drive to Mysore.
Upon arrival, we will check into hotel, Royal Orchid Meteropole.
Evening, we proceed for a night walk that takes you through the ‘brighter’ part of the city where we get to see a marvelously decorated town and also a preface to the city’s heritage. At every step, you will encounter lesser known facets of Mysore’s heritage, including landmark structures, markets, temples, sprawling gardens and lakes. This two hour guided tour will start just after sunset and begins from The Town Hall. On this unique tour you can also enjoy shopping for different items such as flowers, fruits, vegetables and household articles as well as taste some zesty street food.
Overnight at Royal Orchid Metropole (Heritage Room – Upgraded Room) (B)
After breakfast, we will proceed on guided tour of Mysore, which has been for centuries an important center for South Indian culture and learning. It is also the city of lingering aroma of Jasmine, Musk, rose, sandalwood, etc. This is so because Mysore is one of the major manufacturers of incense sticks through scores of family owned factories. The city is also a crafts center. It is an extremely friendly and easy going city and at an altitude of 770 meters it has a wonderful climate. The Maharaja’s Palace (1907) is a huge building in Indo - Saracenic style of architecture; it hosts an extravaganza of stained glass, mirrors, gilt and gaudy colors, beautifully carved wooden doors, mosaic floors and a series of historically important paintings. Of special mention are the beautifully carved mahogany ceilings, solid silver doors, white marble floors and superbly collumned durbar hall (Hall Of Public Audience).. Next we visit the temple of Shri Chamundeshwari, set on top of the Chamundi Hills (1602 meters.). Three quarters up the hill is the famous Nandy (Lord Shiva’s Bull - His vehicle) carved out of a single solid piece of granite and 5 meters in height. The temple itself is a huge building with a 40mtr high seven-storied Gopuram (tower).
Afternoon, we will drive to Hassan, en route visit Shravan Belagola.
We will have a stop at this gigantic statue to take photos of this amazing work of art. The sculpture dominates the landscape from far, and, you could take the photos without climbing the many steps.
Shravan Belagola is one of the oldest and the most important pilgrimage centres for the followers of Jain religion. It is the site of the 17mtr monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali - believed to be the world’s tallest monolithic statue.
Following the visit, we will continue our drive to Hassan.
Upon arrival, we will check in to, Hoysala Village Resort.
Evening, we are free to explore Hassan independently on foot. There is only one main road, the rest are dignified trails. Little shops (grocery, vegetables, tailors etc.) and small temples with a steady stream of pilgrims seem to be bursting on to the lanes. Women and men wearing traditional costumes, stand at their doors with shy curiosity as we walk past the door steps of their typical houses. Our walk would be invariably accompanied by friendly shrill shrieks of children - “hello”, “your name? “Which Country”
Overnight at Hoysala Village Resort, Hassan (Superior Cottage) (B)
This morning we will drive to Chikmagalur en route visiting Belur and Halebid - temple towns, slightly bigger than villages. The temples in typical Dravidian style are excellent examples of traditional Hindu architecture. These temples are the cream of what remain the most artistically exuberant periods of Hindu cultural development. The wealth of sculptural details on the temples makes them easily the most outstanding example of art and architecture. Every inch of the outside wall and much of the interiors are covered with an endless variety of Hindu deities, sages, scenes from wars, hunting, agriculture, music and dance and some very sensual sculptures explicitly portraying the amorous lifestyles of the dancing girls. The life outside the temples is extremely busy and colorful. Pilgrims, bare feet with horizontal or vertical sandalwood paste smearing on their foreheads and wearing traditionally colored saffron or black pilgrim’s costumes move in and out of the temple complex with flowers and other offerings in their hands. The pavement flower shops, shops selling religious artifacts, the fruit and tea stalls with pilgrims flocking around, add color and character to the place.
Later, we continue driving to Chikmagalur.

Verdant forest covering the waterfall makes the ambience of this place, soothing.

After breakfast, we will proceed on the tour of Hampi. A world heritage center, Hampi- is the most beautiful of all the ruins in Karnataka. Founded in the 14th Century, this was the glorious capital city of a flourishing dynasty that was great patrons of art and architecture. The remains can still be seen in the vast ruins of Hampi, which historians have praised as 'greater than Rome'. Hampi is famous for its ruins belonging to the erstwhile medieval Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagar and it has been declared a World Heritage site. The temples of Hampi, its monolithic sculptures and monuments, attract the traveler because of their excellent workmanship. The Hindu style of architecture found at Hampi reflects the splendor of the Vijayanagar Empire. The rugged landscape adds to the historic ambience of this site.

After breakfast, we will drive to Badami, en route we will visit Pattadakal & Aihole. Nothing can be said about the magic of these places as everything is self-explanatory. Aihole is famous as the "cradle of the Indian Architecture". We will also visit Pattadakal – Situated on the left bank of the Malaprabha river, a world heritage centre, and, has 10 major temples representing early Chalukyan architecture.
Following the visit, we will continue our drive to Badami.
Upon arrival, we will check in to hotel, Krishna Heritage.

After breakfast, we proceed on a tour of this incredible city. Badami is famous for its rock-cut cave temples. These temples have been carved out on the red sandstone hills that surround the town. There are four cave temples at Badami. These temples date back to the 6th and 7th centuries AD and ornately carved with figures of Hindu deities. Three temples are dedicated to Hindu gods. The fourth one is a Jain temple and was built much later. Near these caves lies the 5th-century Agastyatirtha Tank, dotted with Bhuthnath temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The archeological museum is located near this tank, which in turn is near the historic Badami fort.

After breakfast, we proceed on a tour of Old Goa. Starting with a drive to Dona Paula, an idyllic spot which overlooks Goa’s magnificent harbor of Mormugão, we proceed to Panjim via Miramar Beach and the leafy residential neighborhood of Campal. In the year 1843 the Portuguese Court in Lisbon issued a Royal Decree making Panjim the new capital of Goa which was a fishing village until then. The Panjim of today still radiates that old charm, with typical Portuguese architecture mirrored in the houses and villas spread along the River Mandovi. Notable among the classic structures are the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Bishop's Palace and Adil Shah’s Palace (the present Secretariat) which was built in 1492 and made the Vice Roy’s residence when Panjim became the Capital of Goa. We also have a stop at the fruit and vegetable market for guests to experience the sights and smells of Goa. Our tour then proc eeds to Old Goa, which was the old capital of Goa. Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus where the incorruptible remains of St. Francis Xavier are kept in a silver casket entombed in a Florentine style marble mausoleum. Also you will have the chance to walk in the narrow lanes of Fontainhas. Fontainhas, the capital of Panjim’s Latin Quarter, is known for narrow lanes full of colorful Portuguese villas with balconies and red-tiled roofs. The 1800s St. Sebastian’s Chapel is a whitewashed, 3-tiered church and the chic Gallery Gitanjali shows contemporary art and hosts cultural events. Small boutiques sell Portuguese azulejo tiles, while traditional Goan eateries and quaint bakeries serve local dishes.
